Luna Park: Unknown Remnant

We stopped by Luna Park yesterday morning, and I got another photo of this. On second look this is too big to be the base of a ticket office, so maybe it is part of the Circus Platform. This view is looking back towards the entrance of the park.

Erie Railroad: West Junction Branch

A view of the West Junction Branch, looking north. On the left are houses along Matthew Street in Scranton.

Luna Park: Unknow Remnant

I'm not 100% sure, but I think this could be a footer from the Scenic Railway. This is located on a ledge, just above the DL&W tracks, where the Scenic Railway once ran. It's on a level area, that runs just below where the base of the footbridge is, on the Luna side of Roaring Brook.

Laurel Line: Stafford Meadow Brook

This is the second bridge, south of Connell Junction, along the Laurel Line. This is from last Thursday, a wet soggy day down here.

Along the Laurel Line

Last Thursday we hiked down into the Meadow Brook Valley. It started to snow a little while we were down there, but the ice is melted off the big pond. Spring must be around the corner.

Nay Aug Falls.

Luna Park: Building Remains

We also spotted these stone blocks. They're in the vicinity of where the Restaurant, and Rifle Range once stood.

Luna Park: Unknown Remnant

We stopped by Luna Park on Sunday. We spotted this foundation, not sure what this is from. I think it could be the base of the ticket kiosk near the Circus Platform, just to the east of the Shoot-the-Shoot remains.

Erie Railroad: Wyoming Division

The Erie tracks, looking north, from a couple weeks ago. The snow was melting pretty quickly that day. This is in between, mileposts 12-13.

Along the Laurel Line

Not sure what this is, but it appears to be some sort of old direction signs. This is along the Laurel Line, in between Connell Junction and Virginia, on the west side of the tracks along a path leading to Ore Mine Road. I wonder if there was another road that split off Ore Mine Road down here.

A view of the abandoned second track, looking north, in between Connell Junction, and Virginia. There is a wetland area on the right, Stafford Meadow Brook and Ore Mine Road are on the left.

Along the Laurel Line: Ore Mine Road

Another view of Ore Mine Road, looking south, towards Virginia, from last Monday. This road runs along the west bank of Stafford's Meadow Brook, from St Mary's German Catholic Cemetery to Virginia, then heads east from there.

Roaring Brook: Step Falls

We caught this view of the Step Falls from the Harrison Avenue Bridge this afternoon. This is on the Roaring Brook, downstream from Nay Aug Park. The Central Scranton Expressway can be seen in the background. The Expressway is seen in the opening credits of the NBC show, "The Office." The bridge over the Expressway is I-81.

Nay Aug Falls

Nay Aug Falls, about noon this morning. The Roaring Brook was really roaring today after all that rain the last few days.

A view of the lower end of the Minooka Branch, as it runs up the hillside from Virginia.

Another view of the building ruins at Virginia.

Along the Laurel Line: Virginia

There is also this somewhat decorative stonework in the rubble, not sure exactly what this is.

Along the Laurel Line: Virginia

At Virginia, next to the tracks are the ruins of this building. This is about where the footbridge once crossed the Laurel Line tracks. A number of Post-war photos of this area show a shell of a building next to the footbridge, this must be all that's left of it. Looking closely there's a rusted out bicycle frame abandoned here in the rubble. In the distance, through the trees, the Erie's Wyoming Division can be seen.

Laurel Line: Virginia

At Virginia there is this section of Laurel Line track that was taken out of service when the Erie-Lackawanna abandoned the Laurel Line south of this point, on Thursday, September 14, 1961. A connection was built here to the Erie's Wyoming Division, which is in use today to take the trolley to the county stadium. This track once headed south to Pittston and Wilkes-Barre.

Looking north along the Laurel Line at Virginia. At left is the Minooka Branch, at right the track to Scranton. When the Laurel Line was in operation, there was a stop here.

Laurel Line: Virginia

We hiked down to this point, known as Virginia on the Laurel Line, note the sign by the switchstand. This is where the junction with the Minooka Branch splits off. The switch is visible in the photo. The road crossing heads over towards the Erie tracks which are in close proximity, to the left. A little further south is Montage Mountain, and the Lackawanna County Stadium.

Along the Laurel Line

One of the wetland areas along the Laurel Line, still covered with ice. This is between the Laurel Line and the Erie's Wyoming Division tracks. The remains of the Meadow Brook Crushed Stone Company are also near this site.

Laurel Line: Near Connell Junction

We took a hike down the Laurel Line this morning. Here's a view of the bridge abutments, looking south, at about 10:30 this morning. The weather was warm, and the snow was melting. There were no bees to be seen around here today.

Nay Aug Falls

Nay Aug Falls, just before noon this morning. The lower part of the Davis Trail is starting to get the heavy ice build up. typical of late winter and the thaw-freeze cycles.

A view of the abandoned Laurel Line right of way in Nay Aug Park, looking west from the remains of Nay Aug Falls & Elmhurst Boulevard. From Last Sunday.

Cleveland: Playhouse Square, 1930's

A view of Playhouse Square in the 1930's. The old Higbee Co. Building is on the left. They moved to their Public Square location in 1932. This would later become the location of Sterling-Lindner-Davis. The Playhouse Square theatres are in the distance, looking east up Euclid Avenue. The large electric sign atop the B.F. Keith Building reads RKO Vaudeville. For a brief period of time in the early 1920's the Keith Building was the largest building between New York and Chicago.
