Plane Number 5

We stopped by the ruins of Plane 5 on East Mountain the other day. This was built by the Pennsylvania Coal Company in 1850 as a way to haul coal from to Pittston area to the D&H Canal at Hawley. It remained in operation until 1885 when it was replaced by a steam railroad, which eventually became the Erie's Wyoming Division.
