New York Ontario & Western: Carbondale Pa.
At the back of Maplewood Cemetery one can look down onto the former O&W right-of-way. At this time of year it's more like a jungle. Recently volunteers have been cleaning up this cemetery, which is Carbondale's oldest.

These piers once supported either Bridge 10, or Bridge 91/2. The O&W passenger station would have been somewhere on the right. This is just off Dundaff Street.

Looking the other way, one sees a bridge pier from the New York Ontario & Western Scranton Division through Carbondale. This was once part of Bridge No. 11. The D&H tracks are in the foreground.

Looking down the tracks, towards the station. The Heritage Valley Explorer can be seen in the distance. This was once the triple track mainline of the D&H through Carbondale.

Carbondale: Gravity Park
A view of Gravity Park in Carbondale. This is the monument to the D&H Gravity RR which was dedicated in 1928 on the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Delaware & Hudson gravity road to Honesdale, and the opening of the D&H canal to Kingston NY. The D&H was the first million dollar corporation in the United States. The park has recently been cleaned up with new walkways and fencing.

We rode the Heritage Explorer train up to Carbondale. It was powered by Nickle Plate Road GP-9 No.514. This view is at the station in Carbondale.
Nay Aug Falls
Nay Aug Falls, about 11:15 yesterday morning. On Saturday afternoon, the Scranton Fire Department had to rescue a girl that jumped into the gorge at this location. That was at least the third time this summer that some fool had to get pulled from the water down here.

Scranton: Markowitz Brothers
Another Downtown Scranton landmark is coming down soon. This building on the corner of Wyoming and Linden Streets will soon be demolished to make way for a new six story apartment building. Markowitz has moved down the street to the Forum at 222 Linden Street. The Federal Building can be seen in the background, on the left.

Globe Theatre
A view of the former Globe Theatre at 902-904 Pittston Avenue. I don't know much about the years this was in operation, but according to some various Film Daily Yearbooks, it had about 650 seats and was once operated by the Paramount-Publix chain.
No. 30 School
A view of the former No. 30 School, also known as Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary. This neighborhood landmark is now the home of a moving and storage company.
