Lackawanna Avenue Clock
Monthly reminder that the clock in the 500 block of Lackawanna Avenue is still 49 minutes fast. Also Andy Mehalshick of WBRE-TVs I-Team is a creep who blocked me on Twitter when I asked him about this! I guess there's no prepared statement for him to read, usually written by the politician he's supposedly investigating. (Clearly WBRE is not on our side).

Lainie Hadden
Received word of Lainie Hadden's passing yesterday. She was the savior of the theatres, without her there would be no Playhouse Square. God bless her.
From CSU Alumnus, winter, 1974. This was in front of the State Theatre during the first "Winter of Brel."
From the Plain Dealer, June 3, 1972. This was the beginning of the Playhouse Square revival.

A couple views of Lackawanna 807 from July 1998. Wish they still had interesting visitors like this at Steamtown.

East 17th Street
Fish-eye view of Broadway Melody ballyhoo on East 17th, next to Loew's State, from Motion Picture News, April 27, 1929. on the right the Hawthorne Apartment building, 1818 E. 17th can be seen. Also on the right can be seen the original Loew's State stage entrance which was razed in 1982 for the new stage house. I believe the Hawthorne was razed not long afterwards. Unsure why they chose 17th and not somewhere closer to the Stillman which was a couple blocks west of this location at 1111 Euclid Avenue for the bally photo.
Plat Book of The City of Cleveland, G.M. Hopkins Company, 1921, Volume 1, plate 2.
A few views along 17th from May 10, 2018. The red brick structure is Loew's State, the white terra-cotta structure is the RKO Palace and B.F. Keith Building.
About the only thing of interest I could find about the Hawthorne Apartments, from the Plain Dealer, May 26, 1910. This incident was eleven years before Loew's State opened.

Renaissance Park
We stopped by Renaissance Park on Saturday morning, just before noon, again the park is locked up tight. It's a shame that the park service can't send someone over on the weekends to unlock this gate. Maybe they should change the sign to reflect the park being closed on the weekends.

Lackawanna Historical Society
The Lackawanna Historical Society at 232 Monroe Avenue, next to St. Thomas Hall, a great place to visit. They have a great research library in here, and the staff is very helpful.
