Rock Crusher Pond

The Rock Crusher Pond, near Connell Junction in the Meadowbrook Valley, from July 10, 2008. The pond is named for the rock crusher, remains of which are nearby, once part of the Meadowbrook Crushed Stone Company. We used to come down here to get some trolley photos, then check out the pond area for about a half hour, then catch the trolley returning from Moosic. These hikes into the woods are most likely the reason I'm now allergic to trees. I'll never forget the look on the doctor's face when he looked at the report, then looked at me and said, "you're allergic to NEPA!"

1968 Time Essay: Politics & Assassination

Politics & Assassination from Time, June 14, 1968.

Some things never change.
This time around it is the news media that fans the hate. Fifty-six years later, and a number of media types are disappointed one of the leading political candidates survived an assassination attempt last weekend, sad. This year has been a rather unpleasant mix of 1938 and 1968, neither of which were good.
