Mosquito Dam Jam
Today is the 44th anniversary of the infamous Mosquito Dam Jam, at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. I never understood the lure of the outdoor concert. I always wondered if the promoters of these events ever bothered to watch the film of the huge 1969 outdoor concert where several died and millions of dollars were lost. I steered clear of this event, seen some of these acts at the Allen, none were my cup of tea. At this "concert" several were stabbed, along with numerous drug overdoses, and outbreaks of violence. By the following Monday, word on the street was this show was a massive bummer. Also amused by the misspelling of "Geils."

Jersey Central Freight Station
The Jersey Central Freight Station on Saturday morning. It's a real shame that this magnificent building sits empty year after year.

Riverwood Baptist Church Revival
A Baptist Revival was held in Lakewood Park, August 14th - 21st, 1966. Rev Bob Deaton was quite the interesting character, did some work for him in the early 1980's, really a great guy, passed away about a dozen years ago. Also appearing were broadcaster Paul Harvey, Miss America Deborah Bryant, and music director Harold Davis from Austin, Texas.
From the Plain Dealer, August 15, 1966.

New Crosswalks
Saturday morning, crews were in downtown Scranton, repainting crosswalks. Traffic was snafu'd for a bit, not sure what the deal was with the water company cars with the flashing lights.

Lackawanna Avenue Clock
Occasional reminder the clock in the 500 block of Lackawanna Avenue still doesn't work, 3:44 fast. Such a joke, this hasn't displayed the correct time in years.

Bruce Springsteen
From Scene, July 17 - 23, 1975.
Fortunately I was not at this, I was probably the only person in Cleveland who couldn't stand Bruce Springsteen. I wasn't so fortunate the next time around, Wednesday and Thursday, April 7-8, 1976. I had a girlfriend who wanted to see him, so I pretty much had to go, I think we went the first night, it was insufferably long.
