The remains of the D&H station in Carbondale, taken a couple summers ago. For more information on the D&H join the Bridge Line Historical Society: My story of the pay train wreck is in the current issue. They put out a great newsletter, worth every penny.
An early Rock & Roll show, in Scranton, was this one at the CYC on Monday, July 9, 1956. Headlining was Carl Perkins, with Al Hibbler, Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers, Cathy Carr, Chuck Berry, Shirley & Lee, Bobby Charles, Della Reese, The Cleftones, and The Spaniels, backed by Illinois Jacquet & His Big Rockin' Rhythm Band. More of these can be found here: http://remnantsofthepast.piczo.com/?g=1&cr=5
We hiked down the Erie yesterday. Construction of the pipeline has changed this area considerably. This is looking east, towards River Street, at about milepost 13.2.
This show produced by Irving Feld, was at the CYC Tuesday, April 24, 1956. The Main headliner was Bill Haley and His Comets, who were riding high on a string of hits at this time. Also on this bill were The Platters, Clyde McPhatter, Laverne Baker, Big Joe Turner, The Teenagers (w/Frankie Lymon) The Teenqueens, Bo Diddley, The Drifters, The Flamingos, and The Colts. All of which were backed by Red Prysock and his Orchestra. I am looking for information on this and similar events in Scranton and Northeastern Pennsylvania from the 1950's and 1960's. What little information I have gathered so far can be found on my other site: http://remnantsofthepast.piczo.com/?cr=5
The construction along the line has uncovered a few things not previously seen. Here a small section of what appears to be a retaining wall has been uncovered.
Heading towards the big cut last Sunday, with the brush cut back, it makes it easier to walk along the tracks. The pipeline work along this area has been completed.
We took a quick look at the pipeline work west of River Street yesterday. It looks like a couple hundred feet has been completed in this area, while work continues a little further west.
