Loew's State Theatre, 1921
Today is the 94th anniversary of the opening of Loew's State Theatre.

The WHK Big Show of 1967, with The Blues Magoos, Jefferson Airplane, Keith, and The Cryan' Shames, from The Plain Dealer, January 8, 1967. This was the last show on the original stage.
Loew's State becomes a Cinerama theatre, The Plain Dealer, March 16, 1967. This didn't work out very well, two years later the theatre would close "forever."
The lobby would become home to the Playhouse Square Cabaret in 1973, with the long running hit Show, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris. From The Plain Dealer, March 8, 1973.

On October 16, 1958 the Biggest Show of Stars tour rolled into Scranton. This must have been one of the earlier Rock and Roll shows to play Scranton. The bill reads like a list of Rock and Roll legends. Buddy Holly & the Crickets, this was the last tour with Jerry Allison and Joe B. Mauldin. Clyde McPhatter the lead singer of the original Drifters, The Olympics, Dion & the Belmonts, along with the others. This was the tour where Buddy and Maria drove in their new Cadillac, with Joe B. and Jerry Allison driving a yellow Desoto station wagon.
I'm not 100% certain, but I believe this was the ony time Buddy Holly appeared in Scranton.
