Scranton: Luna Park

Scranton's Luna Park, the remains from the Shoot-the-Chute, December 2006. Most of the Shoot-the-Chute area is today burnied in fill from I-81. But this one section still remains. Not much of the former amusement park is left, but there are still some remnants left.

So, would this be accessible from somewhere in Nay Aug? Maybe from that old road (Nay Aug Falls and Elmhurst Blvd) above the gorge? It seems like there's a strip of land there alongside the interstate that might lead back toward the former park grounds along Myrtle Street...

Or is it (like the passenger passageway under the Laurel Line) on the other side of 81, near Matthew Ave? (The end of Matthew was daunting, by the way -- the woods are full of junk, and it looks like someone has cut and haphazardly stored a lot of lumber there. Felt like a tresspasser just approaching it.)

The main part of the park is accessible from the Lackawanna tracks, it's just above the Nay Aug sign on a siding, a few hundred feet west of Myrtle Street, watch for trains. You can't get there from the old road, you have to watch for trains and climb above the tracks, there's a big flat area there with remains from the park, you just need to look. Bring the map from Jack Hiddlestone's book, it makes things easier. The corner of the Shoot-the-chute is almost against 81, by the chain-link fence.

Thanks! I have the map, and will use your explanation to take a look. Will watch out for the D&L trains.
