Over that time the church was destroyed by fire several times, being re-built after each conflagration, the last was in 1884. The long gone steeple was replaced in 1999. First Presbyterian is the mother of other congregations, notably North Presbyterian on Superior, and South Presbyterian on Scranton Road, both long defunct. This is the oldest building on Public Square.

From October 23, 2018.
From March, 1995.
From The Plain Dealer, October 20, 1884.
