Penn Furniture

How long is Penn Furniture, 99 Lackawanna Avenue, going to be allowed to block the sidewalk? Pedestrians are forced into busy Lackawanna Avenue because parts of the building are apparently falling onto the sidewalk. This has been an ongoing problem for well over a month now. Once again citizens are held in contempt by the politically connected. Does Scranton even have a mayor anymore?

Steamtown Mall

Steamtown Mall a couple Saturdays ago. The virus has really put the kibosh on mall activity. Looks like that sports store is also closed, the stuff is still there, but it hasn't been open in the last month or so. Either that or they're opening later in the day. Those flea market stalls also remain empty.

First Presbyterian Church

First Presbyterian Church, commonly known as Old Stone, was founded 200 years ago this month. Over that time the church was destroyed by fire several times, being re-built after each conflagration, the last was in 1884. The long gone steeple was replaced in 1999. First Presbyterian is the mother of other congregations, notably North Presbyterian on Superior, and South Presbyterian on Scranton Road, both long defunct. This is the oldest building on Public Square.

From October 23, 2018.
From March, 1995.
From The Plain Dealer, October 20, 1884.
