Ruins of Plane Number 5

 We went up East Mountain last week, haven't been up here in ages. Pennsylvania Coal Company Railroad Plane 5 operated from 1850 - 1880 and was part of a series of planes used to move coal to Hawley on the D&H canal from down in the Pittston area.

From an 1877 insurance map. Note, not all roads/lots platted were constructed. The present day Erie Railroad, Wyoming Division tracks, now out of service, more or less follow the light track in this map.

Anthracite Hi-Railers

The Anthracite Hi-Railers were set up again at the Steamtown Mall, they'll be open again next Saturday as well. The layout changes a bit each time we see it, and there's usually some different equipment running as well.

Roadside Shrine

The only remaining structure in Byrnesville  is this roadside shrine. Byrnesville was once home to around 75 people, the Centrailia Mine Fire forced relocation of the residents.
