Nicholson Pa: Lackawanna Station

The old Lackawanna Staion in Nicholson was originally built by the Liggett's Gap Railroad in 1849. The Liggett's Gap RR was a predecessor to the Delaware Lackawanna & Western, opened it's new cut-off in 1915, bypassing the old station, which continued to be used as a freight house until 1971. The old Lackawanna mainline was sold to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania following the opening of the cut-off and the old route became US Route 11. A road widening project altered one side of the station in 1941. Today the station is owned by the Nicholson Heritage Association which is seeking funds for a restoration project.
