Today is the 44th anniversary of the infamous Mosquito Dam Jam, at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. I never understood the lure of the outdoor concert. I always wondered if the promoters of these events ever bothered to watch the film of the huge 1969 outdoor concert where several died and millions of dollars were lost. I steered clear of this event, seen some of these acts at the Allen, none were my cup of tea. At this "concert" several were stabbed, along with numerous drug overdoses, and outbreaks of violence. By the following Monday, word on the street was this show was a massive bummer. Also amused by the misspelling of "Geils."

I had a great time there will never forget it
I was there the night before until the end of the riot. The night before the concert someone had opened up their field for parking across from the gates. There were people from all over and a few buses full of pot, acid qualudes and pcp it was wild beyond belief. I watched a man get stoned to death for selling bad bladder acid. I witnessed a couple that were making love in a field get run over by a four door Pontiac Catalina. The morning of the concert we were at the gates in mass with one police car Tom Hafley was in the police car beeping the horn and flashing the lights and sirens. Everyone was chanting and calling for the gates to be opened. A few hundred of us climbed the fence gates and toppled them to the ground. Mid way through the concert weather started moving in and the band refused to play due to thunderstorms and that was when the riot started. We raced for the top of the stands for safety and watched the concession stands topple and the riot police showed up and broke up all the mayhem. Numerous biker groups were there during the concert and were able to get onstage and announce that they had roads blocked off and it was time to get down and party.
