Laurel Line: Near Milepost 4

I caught the trolley making an early run yesterday morning, near milepost 4. The trolley excursion season ends today, but there's still a few weekends it will run.

Continuing down the plane, the cut ends, and this wall appears. This must have also been part of the plane, maybe some kind of foundation, or support structure.

Nay Aug Falls, at about 11:45 this morning. The Roaring Brook was really roaring after yesterdays heavy rain.

After stopping off at the top of the plane, we walked down the cut that the loaded cars came up on.

We stopped up at the No.5 Plane this morning. Leaves are coming off the trees pretty quickly now.

Last Friday we caught the trolley passing through Connell Junction.

The signpost next to the Laurel Line tracks. The Erie tracks are a short distance from here, just a hundred feet or so, up the path on the left.

Another view of the ruins. This is in the area, east of the Laurel Line tracks, and south of the bridge that carried the Laurel Line over the creek. There was once a foot bridge over the Laurel Line near here as well.

This is part of the remains for an unknown building. This structure is visible in post-war photos of the area. In 1948 this was a shell of a building, no roof, doors, or windows were remaining back then. Today this is just a pile of rubble.

Nay Aug Falls, this morning about 11 AM. It's starting to look alot like fall down through here.

We also spotted the trolley making its way back into town. The area the Laurel Line called Virginia, is just a short distance away from the Erie tracks, and the location they called "Little Virginia." why this area has this name is unknown to me.

This morning we hiked down the Erie to "Little Virginia." This is the bridge over Stafford's Meadow Brook, looking west.

Scranton: Lackawanna Avenue

A view of the ongoing work in the 500 block of Lackawanna Avenue. The street is supposed to be closed off westbound for another eight weeks. This is a traffic nightmare during rush hour.

A view of the scoreboard after the last game. The Browns would continue to play here until 1995, and Modells treachery, but that's another story.

After the last game on Sunday October 3, 1993, which the Tribe lost 4-0, was the closing ceremony. Bob Hope, a part owner of the team in the 50's, came by to sing a special version of "Thanks for the Memories."

They drew big crowds for the last three games. We had the worst seats I ever had for a Tribe game. This is a sample of the crowd, which was typical of the last games. We were at all three of them. Many significant events happened in this park, Dimaggio's 56 game hitting streak ended here, Don Black's no-hitter in 1947, and the infamous "Beer Night Riot" on June 4, 1974, were some of the highlights of this park.

Cleveland Municipal Stadium

This week marks 15 years since the Tribe played their last games at Municipal Stadium, October 1,2 and 3, 1993. In typical Tribe fashion they lost all three to the hated White Sox. They played their first game here on July 31, 1932, losing to the Philadelphia Athletics 1-0. This photo was taken on the last day of baseball here. The Amtrak station is at lower right.
