Lackawanna Railroad
Nickel Plate 514 eastbound crossing the Cedar Avenue bridge on Saturday morning. This bridge was once the Lackawanna's main freight line. The bridge that led to the passenger station was just in front of this one, and was removed last summer. The 514 is hauling a couple of passenger cars as part of the Steamtown museum's short rides.

Captain Colin P. Kelly was killed in action on December 10, 1941, just three days after Pearl Harbor. On the mission Kelly's B-17 bombed the Japanese cruiser Natori. Upon returning to Clark Field in the Philippines Kelly's plane was shot down by Japanese Zeros, Kelly stayed at the controls allowing some of his crew to escape. Later, Kelly was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. His widow appeared at numerous War Bond rallies during the war.

Cleveland Electrical Exposition 1914
This week is the 98th anniversary of the Cleveland Electric Exposition, which was sponsored by the Electric League of Cleveland. which ran May 20-30, 1914. It was held at the Wigmore Coliseum on East 13th Street, at Dodge Court. Events like this were designed to give the public a look at what electricity can do in the home by showing off new appliances like vacuum cleaners and washing machines. The main goal was to get people to switch from gas to electricity in their homes. Wigmore's Coliseum later was transformed into the Dodge-13th Building.

Electric City Trolley
