Looking east in the big cut.

Along the Erie

We took a hike down the Erie yesterday. We spotted "Wyoming Willie" the third most famous groundhog in Pennsylvania along the tracks.

What's Happening: Scranton 1968

Another ad from What's Happening at 101 Pittston Avenue in Scranton, from Thursday April 18, 1968. I assume The Remains are the famous group. This seems like it was a popular venue for a time in the late-60's. By the Spring of 1969 it must have been closed since no mentions of it are found.

Mel Wynn & The Rhythm Aces appear to be a fairly active band on the local scene during this era as well.

I'm looking for information on this, and other rock and roll events from the 1950's and 60's.

More info can be found on my other site: http://remnantsofthepast.piczo.com/?g=1&cr=5

And I finally fixed the comment page there as well.

Jersey Central RR: Scranton

Heading south, this stretch is rather mundane. The river is on the left, but the growth hides it from view.

Jersey Central RR: Scranton

Just before the start of the tail is this tell tale, just before Bridge 60. We'll have to come down here in the fall, since it's pretty well overgrown.

What's Happening: Scranton 1968

I stumbled across this ad the other day while doing some research. This seemed like an interesting venue, to say the least. "Strob lights that will put you in a trance," "Live explosions," "Sounds you've never heard." all at 101 Pittston Avenue. I don't know if I'd say that The Vagrants are the equal of the Vanilla Fudge, but they were a pretty good group. I certainly would like to hear from anyone who may have some knowledge of this, as well as any rock and roll shows from the 1950's and 60's.
