New Milepost

 We spotted the new milepost along Ridge Row the other day. It marks the spot, 133 miles from Hoboken on the Lackawanna main.

 This place has been down here a long time, over 100 years.

New Stairs

 The new stairway by the UofS football field, behind Lackawanna Station, is now finished. The old stairs were wooden, and beginning to deteriorate, this is a much needed improvement. The large slab of concrete is a footer of the old Spruce Street Bridge, demolished in 1969.

A Finger

 I never noticed this before, on the chapel in Cleveland's Riverside Cemetery, been through here dozens of times as a kid. Glad a friend pointed it out, somewhat curious as to the meaning.

Crazy River Ranch Jam

 This was one of the weirder shows I worked. Months earlier I had agreed to work the event in some capacity, if needed. So I came up from Columbus where I was working (RKO Palace) then for this. I ended up working the front gate for most of this, of course it rained. I think there were 5-600 people at this. The sheriff would come by every so often, I told him he could go down and take a look, but he said "no way." That pretty much summed up this muddy nightmare in the middle of nowhere.

Old Central Market

 The old Central Market circa 1945, photographer unknown. This building was destroyed by fire in December 1949, vendors subsequently moved into the old Sheriff Street Market building, renaming it the new Central Market in early 1950. This photo is one of a group of 8X10s I obtained at train shows in the 1980's. I recently fired up the scanner when I came across all sorts of interesting artifacts.

Kay's Books

 A brief article on Rachael Kowan, owner of Kay's Books, 620 Prospect Avenue. I bought a number of books here over the years. The second floor of this store was filled with thousands of back number magazines. I once found a copy of Fortune on the Penn Central bankruptcy for 50¢ in there. Kay could be quite unpleasant, often telling you about the bargain you're getting. I knew a couple people that worked for her, neither lasted long, she could be quite abusive to employees.

SEPTA 206

 SEPTA 206 outside the Trolley Museum a couple months ago. The 206 was built by Brill as Philadelphia & Western 206 in 1931. This "bullet" car was later converted to brine use, and was ultimately retired in 1995.

Goodtime II

 Advertising card from the Goodtime II. We've ridden this a number of times, the river tour is more interesting then the lake tour. This ship has been retired and replaced by a newer vessel.

Railfest

 No Railfest again this year, here's one from 2013. Hopefully this event will return in the future.

Philadelphia Suburban 80

 Philadelphia Suburban 80 at the Steamtown boarding platform last month. Electric City Trolley Museum excursions run:10:30 AM, 12:00 noon, 1:30 PM and 3:15 PM Thursday through Sunday until the end of October, Santa trolley trips are usually scheduled weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas as well.

Coney Island Lunch/Scranton Hobby

 Two great places in Downtown Scranton, Coney Island Lunch is always a great spot for a bite. Scranton Hobby is temporally closed according to the sign on the door, hopefully it's not permanent, 500 block Lackawanna Avenue. Support local business!
